Out of curiosity.......Yan Bingtao  and  Stephen Maguire as mentioned...why, on the scoreboard on screen, was Maguire listed as Maguire and Bingtao listed as Yan.

I have noticed this before with the Chinese playes, they list by their first name where historically all other players seem to be listed by surname??

Chinese names are the other way round, its surname and then forename.  His name in western order would be Bingtao Yan.

Excellent match!

Send me a tenner and I won’t tell you who won! 🙂👍

I sent the money to your African account 👍

Just watched the last frame now, some standard of play when the scores are so high.

Ronnie looked rattled with his breaks, I thought when it came back to 3-3 it was going to be one for one after that with the first to make a mistake to lose.

But when Higgins won the 8th, Ronnie almost dropped his que leaving the arena!!

Queuing error followed and it's all over, the slow methodical play by Higgins just grinds players down, he never made a mistake.

Higgins is my favourite player because he is so unflappable.  I remember some ridiculous comebacks he made in the 90s where he went from on the ropes to shifting a gear and winning.

Higgins played brilliant against Ronnie but that was a poor show last night i don't think Yan would have won against the likes of Selby or Trump but as they say you can only play what's In front of you so well done to him 👏

Like you say, you can only play who is in front of you, the rest is merely opinion. Selby didn’t play well enough to make it even to the last four, and if you listened to those supposedly in the know, Yan wasn’t expected to make it through the first round let alone the final.

After knocking out the title holder, Hendry and Parrot were asked if they thought Yan could win it, and Parrot said ‘why not?’ whereas Hendry said it would be O’Sullivan, who didn’t make it to the final.
Yan knocked out everyone he played against, including the bloke who beat the favourite, so he has nothing to prove, and saying he wouldn’t have beaten whomever is totally irrelevant and undermines his achievement. He was simply the best out there.

How dose it undermine his achievement as i said he was the best on the night only time will tell if he can go all the way again

It’s just totally irrelevant comments such as ‘ I don’t think Yan would have won against the likes of Trump or Selby’. He didn’t play them so the point is moot; Trump wasn’t there to beat him and Selby was knocked out early on. 🤷‍♂️

It’s as irrelevant as me saying he wouldn’t have beaten Hendry. Pointless.
A comment such as that you made may have had more relevance as an opinion prior to the event, but after it merely undermines his achievement. He was better than any of them.

It was a fabulous frame indeed. I seriously doubt it’s a flash in the pan, merely reaching maturity.
At the age of fifteen in 2015, he beat former World Champion and former Masters title holder Shaun Murphy, in the Champion of Champions tournament. Bingtao was an amateur and still a schoolboy at the time. He was then beaten by the Australian ( can’t recall his name ) whom Bingtao knocked out of the Masters earlier last week. I think he’s going to be around for a while. 🙂

Not watched snooker for years but I have really enjoyed this, I might even watch some more

Have a look for the Robertson v Trump final December 2020, it was an absolute blinder.

Obviously better if you can watch without knowing the winner.
