Amazing to see on the news today that large meteorite flare captured so clear on peps simple doorbell cams in the night. Are they really that good?     NB

Some are very good now, which isnt a bad thing if someone is trying to get in and they are auto on ones.

Are trail cameras on my property classed as cctv they cover the rear of the house but do capture other people's gardens

You mean legally, presumably, as opposed to what wikipedia thinks?

However, literally the first google result on CCTV use in private dwellings....

If your CCTV system captures images of people outside the boundary of your private domestic property – for example, from neighbours’ homes or gardens, shared spaces, or from public areas – then the GDPR and the DPA will apply to you. You will need to ensure your use of CCTV complies with these laws.

That's from gov.uk, somewhat more autoritative than Wikipedia!

I don't think the fact a trailcam is not a traditional CCTV system is relevant - you are capturing images outside of the boundary of your private property.

In fact if you follow the link to the ICO page on 'Domestic CCTV systems - guidance for people using CCTV', it states

The phrase ‘domestic CCTV system’ refers to the use of any video surveillance equipment mounted or fixed on your home. It can include cameras fitted to doorbells.

Definitions on Wikipedia or dictionaries have no force in law....
