Renewable barrels?

Having watch FSC Fieldtesters piece on SteelShot and Bio Wads, I would love to know the collectives thoughts on the bit with the Yildiz salesman and Jason Doyle’s idea on having to renew you barrels or gun every couple of years to stay within safe limits of proof. At as quoted £1700 ago sounds completely out of the average shooters pocket

It's going to be a firm NO from me. It's already possible with semi autos and pump guns but can you imagine having a lovely double side by side and having to get a new set of barrels after say 5 years and then have them fitted by the manufacturers as surely they would put some clause in that you have to send the gun back to have barrels fitted by them. A major source of profit right there. Then add the cost of the proof house onto that as well and the costs will be so astronomical that even the most affluent of toffs wouldn't pay for it

On a modern mass produced gun I see no reason why a new set of barrels supplied in their finished state can not be fitted in a couple of hours , proofing may take longer but thats another thing and could be over come .

This would depend on the maker who would much rather you bought another gun .

Older guns especially British made guns , even those made by the likes of Webley , which were hand built , so not interchangeable would need barrels made as one offs .

So the choice is either use a gun that does not matter or a gun made for steel shot . OR Take a leaf out of the modern protesters book , ignore the banning of lead shot and set fire to town centres in protest , as it seems that government listen to these people , not those who write to there MP's and quietly campaign .
