Sim card problems

Here is a warning about changing sim  cards from standard mobiles to I Phones.  Yesterday kind friends offered me their old I phone still in good working order.  Well we changed sim cards and only  a few numbers came up on the new device, all my numbers were saved to sim card rather than phone which was new this year and had accepted this card with all my numbers intact.  Well back to old phone which now only showed a handful of numbers and keeps telling me to insert sim card.  I am not a techie and regard mobiles as a convenient tool rather than a status symbol.  Do I take it these essential saved numbers are gone for good?

I was caught out myself a few years ago and ever since I have backed it up with some old fashioned technology I write them down in a book

That sounds like a good idea.  I spent some time on 02 live chat last night and did not get an answer to," will the new sime  coming to me be ok in an I Phone"?

Well the mystery deepens put the sim back in the old phone and hey presto contacts are all back.  Some things still missing  can send and receive texts can talk to someone ,tried it at home ,  no welcome music no ping for texts roll on the phone shops opening again.
