you may larf ..............but that is the best machine out there.......gets in deep and breaks the soil up........its a pain to do but just do a bit at a time and will give you far better results than any machine.........after you have done it brush some feed into it using an old style witches broom.......

Or just some lawn sand to break up the impacted soil.

There are no shortcuts to getting a good lawn.ย  As said get some air down to roots and brush in sharp sand. Too dress the lawn and feed.

Cut often rather than let it get long and scalping it.
