It's great to have a resourceful mind when it comes to the unexpected power cuts. Up at mum's I keep a gas bottle and camp stove on standby incase of power cuts now, when my son was a few months old back in 2012 we had a power cut and the wife was panicking about how to warm his bottle up.... well our stove in the living room has a flat enough spot to place a pan on, job was a good one!!
