Hello, I bet the prices on adverts are interesting ?

Indeed. There’s ‘The New BSA’ 12 bore hammerless shotgun for £7. 7s.
Hogg ‘Fife’ boots at 39/- and you could buy a ‘pure bred’ Labrador pup for £2 10s.

Best prices paid for Badger, mole and rabbit skins.
Teetotaler gamekeeper seeks position.
Under-keeper wanted. Wages 34s. per week and 2d per head of vermin.
🙂

Hello, what would a wage of 34 shillings be worth today, 🤔 and that's just the under keeper,

I wonder what the crystal ballers would have predicted what the shooting world would be like 100 years time when it was published in 1920 ?

We are still shooting game , clays and vermin over a lot less land than what was available in 1920 , yes , a lot of things have changed which can only be expected but for how much longer , who knows ?

If the crystal ballers can look at how things will be in 2121 I wonder how much , or how little shooting will be carried out then ?

There is an article which I’ll copy out some time if it won’t photograph, regarding a readers letter which laments the passing of the muzzle loader, wondering what effect the new fast firing breech loaders will have on the numbers of game shot.

Very interesting - always the way that new technology is seemed as an unsporting advantage, thank you for posting.

I remember selling mole skins in the late 60s. They had to be stretched out to dry and cured with salt first. Can't remember what they fetched though, might have been 3d.
