Road kill

I believe that you aren't allowed to posses a badger ,or , part of a badger , unless certain criteria are filled  ( just something I remember reading years ago ), but in reality , I don't expect that anyone would know , or care , if you cut a few hairs from a road kill badger.

Oh you can definitely get in to trouble with live badgers, but dead ones?

Its an offence to be in possession of a dead badger unless certain conditions are met. One of our more obscure laws.

Also illegal to be in possession of part of a dead one or anything derived from it 🤔 . Few defences to that but too long winded to go in to. Badger Protection Act 1992 i think?

Dig a little deeper dave . I'm still pretty sure that it's an offence to have a badger,  or part of a badger , in your possession   . I'd guess that it was introduced as a way of securing a prosecution,  after a badger had been killed(and you tried to say that youd found it) ,  or ,  if the police found traces of blood or hair , in your car or on your premises , but had no body .

Used to be able to buy badger hair for fly tying.  I had some once, may still be some in all the stuff I have lying about.

The law side of things then I would as said, assume that being in possesion is probably not a good idea.

If it is for salmon flies, then there are alternatives which work just as well.  I will see what I have lying about.

And the. badger foot back scratcher

not to mention ditchmans ceremonial sporran 😂

That wasn't a sporran,  he was just trying to push the ginger all the way in with his ginger poker , as you walked into the room .

Fair play to him I say . Not many would go to those lengths to revive a dead badger 😅.

why do you want badger hair? there is 1,000,s of other hair, fur out there. I have tied flies for 50 years and have never used it.

It is used on one or two traditional salmon shrimp flies. I agree lots of other choices but have to admit that badger is still the best choice. Also been tying for may be a few years longer than yourself.  Javelina hair is excellent to fit the same use and also nilgai as they ahve the same 'feeler' result in the tying and also come with the black white grey bars .
