First jab

Just had my first jab today(Astrazenaca). We are going quite well with the rollout in Northern Ireland and today I saw a notice that there was an early release of vaccines for age group 35 to 39 so managed to book in.

Turned up and as a consequence of so many people trying to book there was a bit of a faux pas with my booking and said I had actually been booked for the next day, helpful young lady said not to worry and she would just re-book me for right there and then, a good result!

Anyway here's hoping I don't suffer too bad of a headache in the morning as seems to be common!

Were the queues of people in our age group? If so, that's good news, as I'm expecting it to be the younger cohorts that show serious numbers of people not going for them when offered.

You'll be fine. I'm in your age group and I didn't turn green or grow gills or anything. Bit flu-like but nothing bad enough to get any real sympathy.

Most were in the younger age group I believe, still some slightly older but I reckon everyone I saw today bar maybe a few were all under 50. This was at a mass vaccination centre but there is now the rollout of the pharmacy vaccine service as well as the GPs so it's looking good.

You’ll have worse hangovers!

Had my 1st on Thursday.

A computer system failure meant the normally slick process was delayed ... I counted 130 ahead of me in the queue and the same behind me when I left (2hrs in total).

Didn't see one person leave, or get the hump .. a nice example of the better side of human nature.

No post jab issues for me.

Good to hear, I think most places are being operated with a good air of common sense and people queuing up with typical british decency. I've been grand so far, taken a couple of paracetamol/codeine to take the edge off what feels like a bit of a hangover but nothing major so far at least. A friend of mine said his hit him after about 28 hours and he felt dog rough but it cleared up pretty quickly

Have to go to the SSE for second jab, any problem parking ?

Nope no problem parking mate, just give yourself plenty of time, when I joined the queue it was at the traffic lights at the crossing. And make sure you have had a pee before joining the queue!! I ducked outa the line expecting the people behind me to respect my spot for all of seconds, nope ended up back of the queue!

All that aside it seems to be really well run, even with the queue and my toilet stop fiasco I was out in around an hour or so.

Felt like I've had a 2day hangover but all in all its been ok. Best of luck 👍

Nor me, fortunately, maybe a bit achey the next day but if it was it was very slight.

I had a client in tonight for some sports massage treatment and he was talking about just getting his vaccine as well, bit achey but nothing major....his missus on the other hand had to take to her bed over it.

We got round to thinking that maybe the side affects kinda hit the same way a light dose of covid would have hit you and how the immune system reacts, some people get floored when others get barely a sniffle. Just casual chat but enough to get a little speculation going

Both doses of the AZ vaccine, now and no side affects. Each time I have been it has been a very slick affair which is great for a small rural GP surgery. I am so glad that the younger age groups are being offered the jab now and really feel we have this thing on the back foot I just pray that's not just my hopes and optimism.

  • 2 weeks later...

First Jab for me today, it couldn't have gone smoother,  signage could have been better driving into town, covid signs everywhere but I knew where I was going.

I arrived on time and was through in 15 minutes I'd say 🙂

I'm glad that things seem to be rolling out well as regards the UKs vaccines, I expected bigger issues with vaccine supply with how bad things have got in India recently but I've heard here in NI we are rolling it out to 30yrs old and up now. I'm wondering will the next milestone be just to open it for 18+ soon rather than bother with the 5 year steps they have been taking
