Weather!

From frosty mornings and awful winds a few weeks ago, to blistering ( literally ) sunshine and dustbowl earth while we painted the pub exterior over most of the last two weeks, we’re now back to cold and snow capped Fells less than a mile away, and deep rain puddles in the yard!
What’s that all about then!

🙂It’s out, but most of it has blown away!

Hopefully it won`t blow too much of the blackthorn blossom away also.

My flowering cherry lost a lot of its blossom last night.

add me to that comment.   It ain't changed in the last 80 years to my memory.  1963  still frozen snow and ice piled on the sides of the road in Sutton Coldfield end of April.

BUT  it is still a green and pleasant land we live in.

What is a “clout”. My mother in law used the same expression but never knew what the clout was.

I grew up in Westmorland, now part of Cumbria, and my Dad often referred to a cloth as a clout. I was always led to believe the saying referred to the shedding of winter clothes.

Hopefully not. 👍 We have an abundance of Blackthorn in bloom at the moment.

These are our temps for the last 30 days, middle column is the over night lows, just 2mm of rain for the whole of April. Some days it's felt like being in a Himalayan mountain village with a hard frost, a howling easterly wind and dust blowing through the farm. Just needed a couple of Buddhist monks wandering about!

It doesn’t matter if the blackthorn petals blow away as the flowers have usually been pollinated before they become loose.

Many thanks for clarifying that JDog. I can therefore look forward to a good crop of sloes this year.
