Coach

I’m looking for a coach in the North Yorkshire area. I’m already at a reasonable standard but would like to progress, particularly with the mental training side of the sport.

Can anyone recommend a coach that’s local. I’ll travel to neighbouring counties if necessary.

Apologies for not making this clear but I’m looking for a trap coach rather than sporting, specifically fast trap (ABT/UT).

Does anyone know of a coach that specialises in this area?

I know some down South but not in the North. . If you want to travel to Nuthampstead (Anita North works from there) or A1 then I have names that come with recommendations. You could try Lee Campion of Doncaster, he coaches DTL and OT so probably does UT and ABT and was a UT shooter. Also Charlie Dean lives near Beverly but I don't know that he does more than OT. I'd ring the clay ground you want to go to and ask them. Alternately ask on shootclay.com where all the trappies hang out.

Has the ABT layout gone from the lakeside then  ?  Do not know if Joe Neville is still going, but he was one of the best Coaches that I have ever encountered. He was at Matlock in Derbyshire and his Brother had a gun shop there.

Yes Joe's setup is still running - could hear them at it today😂

Have you contacted  the CPSA ?  I'm sure they will advise you on who/where ??

I have. There’s plenty of coaches that offer relatively basic instruction but none that drill down into the finer details of the mental side of competitive shooting.

David Ball’s been mentioned. Has anyone any experience of him?

They used to advertise Skeet some years ago, until I tried to book a few rounds. They said they were considering one, but it didn't actually exist.

The stand over the lake is set up for ABT, I think the controller is in the summer house

Hey there Listy,

Being a yorky myself I am sure if its fast trap you want, Beverley is the place to go.

I am also a relative novice being a late starter to Clay's. I have heard about Dave Ball from several shots and his reputation seems solid.

If you also look on another thread, Mark Winser gets mentioned. I know he is more sporting but he also does all round at rufforth and they do tell me he is one of the best at ball trap on that ground.

Also good advice regarding contacting Rob Hall who owns Beverley, he will know the good ones.

Anyhow , I am looking at dabbling with a bit more fast trap myself. Keep us informed if you choose someone and let us know how things turn out 👍
