Yeah there is a full house there isn't there........apparently Hungary are the only Team/Country in the Euro Championship selling tickets to capacity. 67,000 at this one I believe........hope it doesn't come back to haunt them with infection rates. Haha, if there's one set of government figures that I would trust even less than the UK's own died 'of/with' COVID, it would be the Hungarian one... udderlyoffroad
And....what? Different countries have different rules, has been thus throughout the pandemic. https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/hungary/coronavirus In glorious detail for you to read up. Nobody is forcing you to go to these places. Perversely of course, you're not actually allowed to either. Well, sort of. Amber and all that. Hungary are also still to play France and Germany, both are sell outs at 68,000.
Scully
Perhaps the Hungarian Government treats its subjects as adults, with the capacity to choose for themselves?

I have no idea of Hungary's infection rates, just seems a bit strange they are the only ones selling to capacity in a UEFA competition.......not saying it's wrong mind, just unusual. udderlyoffroad
Just now, Scully said: Perhaps the Hungarian Government treats its subjects as adults, with the capacity to choose for themselves? A brief gander at the FCO website shows they're rather more down the road of 'immunity certificates' - I.e. Proof of jab. But this is somewhat to be expected, they are former Eastern Bloc and still have quite the 'papers' for everything mentality. As to enforcement outside of the major cities, experience would suggest that would be, uh, variable
toontastic
I'm watching the match and they mentioned everyone had to show proof of vaccination before gaining entry to the ground.

You started this thread, not me, seemingly baffled (and forgive me if I have this wrong) that countries are returning to normal? They had to show proof of vaccination to get in; why on earth do they need to maintain social distancing? It's worth noting, again, that social distancing rules varied across Europe and the rest of the world. 1.5m in Germany, 1.8m in the US, 2m in the UK.... That seems quite generous if Scotland have been given 4000 out of 22500 tickets, seeing as Scotland's population is around a tenth of the population of England, and they are the away team. Yeah, they will have about 20% of the crowd on the night.

It's interesting to note that Hungary didn't experience (according to their stats at least) the "first wave" that most of western Europe had in Spring last year. The figures say it came to them late, in September/October, and then had a resurgence in March/April this year. But it has tailed off sharply and they're down to somewhere near the same as us in the UK now in terms of infections and deaths - virtually negligible. Obviously the big caveat is how accurate their data is.
Vince Green
My mother's home help and her Husband are Hungarian and we know them and their family and friends pretty well by now. They are younger of course but do not seem to have taken lockdown seriously throughout this pandemic

It is ingrained into the Hungarian mentality to constantly be finding away around (or sometimes blatantly ignoring) rules. This is something of a survival mechanism following many years of living as a satellite state of the USSR. You had to constantly be wheeling and dealing and operating under the radar to survive. It is said that if a Hungarian follows you into a revolving door, he will come out the other side in front of you. But, there is much of more a 'papers please' attitude, which is why the vaccine passport/proof of vaccination was politically acceptable. Dave-G
Ya but footy frolics, like many a social interest that can result in mass gatherings of heavy breathing is much more important than calm covid depression to the throng. They don't go to pubs and restaurants to socialise they gather at each other's houses on the weekend and drink heavily. Then they drive home. The lockdown hasn't done anything to modify this behaviour.. My mum's carer has been here four years at least, she still drives on her Hungarian driving licence and I guess most of the others do too.. good luck to them
