Cuckoos heading back.

It's hard to believe, but two recently tagged Cuckoos at Loch Katrine, and Loch Arklet in Perthshire, have left our shores and are on their way back to Africa.

One was recorded in Northern France, and the other in the Netherlands on their Southerly migration.

I was working on a job near Chelmsford in Essex last week and heard a cuckoo on the neighbouring property, I’d not heard one since I was a youngster

I'm still hearing them every day.

Two of this years UK tagged cuckoos are now heading through southern France, on Sunday (27/6/21) one of the birds had travelled 464 miles in 3 days, from Normandy to Istres, before it  makes its crossing to North Africa ..........BTO Cuckoo tracking project gives daily updates on line.

The tagged Cuckoo from Loch Arklet in Perthshire, that left our shores on June 12th, has now crossed the Sahara, and its latest location is northern Nigeria, 3,685 miles from its departure site.

That is amazing 👏

I heard a cuckoo a few times in May and early June but not after then.
