Motability specialist, batteries for mobility scooters.

Yes well worth enquiring , my one is several years old now and I bought it second hand for a fiver , used it for two to three hours sessions and the odd all day and up to now have never let me down , it came off a golf buggy , the local car breakers near mine also had several second hand ones that came off like you say mobility scooters , trouble is you don't know how much work they have done before being scrapped , mind you , as they are only a few quid you are not going to put yourself in financial hardship if they don't last as long as a new one .:hmm:

+1 ,I have 2 , one is a gel pack battery the other normal lead acid, both from golf carts, via a local car boot sale, one was a fiver, the other I got the cart as well all in for a tenner, the cart I sold on eBay for £20, can't be bad, they are both still going strong after a lot of use and recharges, probably had them getting on 5 years now,

To run a mobility scooter you need two. As it's unusual for two batteries to fail together shops tend to replace both batteries and scrap the old ones.

Generally but not always the batteries are in a sealed battery case for ease of charging or lifting into/out of the scooter before putting into vehicle for transport.

This way you can pick up one fully functioning battery that is small and light and designed to be run down and recharged on a regular basis.

A man of my own heart Alan , pigeon shooting is a very do it yourself type of sport , no need to spend a lot of cash when you can make or pick up some of the gear you need for decoying , some of the country boots around our way often have all various odds and ends that can be used for our sport , you often see half a roll of old fencing straining wire , this is ideal to make cradles up for next to nothing , decoys are fairly common both full size and shell , nets can and often crop up, I bought two long light weight nets that had five pounds each on them , I asked the chap how much for the two and I bought them for eight quid , handy for spares or to use for a semi permanent hide without the worry of losing a fair bit of dosh if it got nicked .I have seen seats and barrels with revolving tops on top that I didn't really want and a set of lofting poles that the seller thought they were drain rods , although I dare say they could have been used for a Lavy-tree as well as any other tree .

If you've a fire and security alarm company local give them a call and enquire.

The systems all use a 12v battery backup supply from which the batteries are replaced every 4 years regardless of the condition. The systems charge and condition the batteries for the duration so they will likely be as new.

IME they'll have them stored somewhere and a scrappy will collect them in bulk and pay peanuts compared to the true scrap value.

7, 12, 18 and 21 AH were the most common sizes but batteries up to 120+ AH weren't uncommon for large commercial systems.

The may well say no as you won't have a valid waste carriers license etc but it's worth a shot. Smaller, one man band type companies will likely not have an established waste management system in place and let you have some for beer money.
