Just been reported on NE news that refuse collecting and the Police have been impacted by the amount of employees having to self isolate.

There’s no legal requirement to isolate if you get pinged by the app is there? Only if you’re contacted by phone or letter.

I think the point Scully is making is that some people are happy to get pinged and to have to self isolate!

Our rubbish hasn't been collected for two weeks. No, not due to Covid. The bin men have decided to go on strike just because their company is being taken over and there might, just might be some changes. So, hottest week of the year and festering bins.

I can imagine the police coming into contact with someone who has covid, app or no app, but the majority of police cars/Van's I see are around Barrow and they are all still wearing masks.

The bin men, sorry refuse collection teams 🤣🤣 are obviously not bothered and sat side by side in the cab and are hardly likely to be coming into contact with the general public long enough to have to isolate.

I'm not sure what the mask reference means; you can still be infected and indeed 'pinged' if you're wearing a mask.

I'm pretty certain bin men will come into contact with the general public, including their own families, outside work hours. Believe it or not I sometimes see bin men in our local shop, grabbing some bait! 🙂

Its pretty obvious to me that dustmen for example are going to be triggering devices in the houses they visit, and vice versa. My mate deleted his app after the third time he got pinged. There is a public footpath down the side of his home and he thinks that was the cause.

I don’t think so, only if you’re contacted by test and trace, not pinged by the app.

Self-isolate immediately

If you're told to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace or the NHS COVID-19 app:

  • self-isolate immediately
  • do not leave your home for any reason – if you need food or medicine, order it online or by phone, or ask friends and family to drop it off at your home
  • do not have visitors in your home, including friends and family – except for essential care
  • try to avoid contact with anyone you live with as much as possible
  • any people you live with and any people in your support bubble do not need to self-isolate if you do not have symptoms

Your self-isolation period includes the day you were last in contact with the person who tested positive and the next 10 full days.

Both the same regardless of its an app or a phone call. I think this was even clarified in parliament the other day.

Vince, I thought it only went ping if exposed/close to a known carrier for a minimum of 15 minutes.

Parliament discussed it but legally it still stands that there is no basis in law that you must self isolate if pinged by the app. If you don’t isolate after being pinged by the app you can’t be fined. If you don’t isolate after being contacted by test and trace you can be fined. Snip from the NHS website:

It's a legal requirement to self-isolate if you are told to by NHS Test and Trace. You could be fined if you do not self-isolate.

Info from an interview with the business minister yesterday:

https://www.itv.com/news/2021-07-20/covid-self-isolation-not-compulsory-if-pinged-by-nhs-app-minister-confirms

”crucial” but not illegal.

The App is a quality bit of code...not.

A sensible code design would have accessed the unique identifier that every phone has - the IMEI number to ensure 'uniqueness'.   But no, let's spend millions on poor code design so that should someone get 'pinged' simply uninstalling the App and reinstalling will fix the problem and they can go back to work...hopeless.

Who knows if that really is the case? Take my friend's house next to a footpath, it runs between a car park and the shops. If somebody parks their car , walks through the alley connecting with  his app on the way. Then they do their shopping but connect again with his app again on the way back twenty minutes later, does that count? I don't know how these work out who is at risk and who is not

I know someone who works on the refuse, his sick pay is 100% of his normal wages. (I'm not sure if that applies to isolating)

10 days on full pay...........

I can't comment on your local authority , but in the local authority that I work for , I know around 200 refuse/green waste/ recycling  collectors , around 150 of them are agency staff , and if they have to self isolate , they get zero pay , they will have no part in the app or testing . The story in the borough that I live , is very similar .

That made me smile. 17 is the record I have seen in one of our local branches. They get free drinks, although that is a disciplinary matter.

Don't bother with 999, just call Mcdonalds, it may well be quicker.

All our bins are emptied by contractors. The council don't have any part in it since 2014 when it was privatised

and has it got worse? you bet it has
