It's finally begun! Already we've had one big upset as USA were beaten 3-0 in the women's football by Sweden. Team GB started with an acceptable 2-0 over Chile.

But the big news for the shooting world is Amber Hill is out with a positive Covid test. All this talk of athletes being secure? It turns out they're not so secure after all. I'm amazed it's still going ahead, especially as Japan can't recoup losses with ticket sales and tourism trade anyway as it's all behind closed doors.

Madness, but then the world is very mad these days. Anyone got anything they're particularly looking forward to?

I think Japan has dropped the ball on this one but we don’t know the politics of it all!!

Real shame for AH!!

Yes. The games has cost them billions I believe, and I can only assume they are desperate to recoup whatever they can through tv revenue and advertising, but it all just seems to be going from one disaster to another.

Yes. The women's weightlifting. I have £100 on New Zealand for gold. Looking forward to my £1.20 winnings.

Just watched the men’s road race. Oh my goodness 6 hours in the saddle in that heat at that pace.

I couldn’t do six minutes!

Brutal eh? Great win for Carapaz, but once again the British race had an inevitable twist to it...Geraint Thomas crashed! It's amazing he's had the success he has, given the regularity with which he hits the tarmac.

Now come on, I have had a cracking morning watching the ladies diving and the ladies cycling road race, but can someone explain how the BBC commentary team constantly refer to a close range attack when talking about the mens taekwondo with our Bradly Sinden fighting.

How can it be anything other than close range when it is a CONTACT sport?

I'm not expert, but I imagine it's something like boxing where short, compact boxers look to get inside a fighter's longer reach to cramp their movement whilst still managing to deliver shots themselves.  conversely, I wonder if in Judo, a longer reach fighter could look to make trips and enforce rolls from contact with the opponent's arms from range rather than at the waist close in, using your arms as blockers to stop a competitor getting inside at the waist and negating your foot offensive?

On the cycling, it sounds like the big names just missed about the Austrian up the road! She was far from a big name and Annemiek van Vleuten admitted to not even knowing of her! They clearly saw her go off the front, so did they just forget about her?! What-ah mistake-ah to make-ah

Well I watched three on three basketball this afternoon on the red button, it was fantastic, 12 secondshot clock, fast non stop and the first to 21,  bbc had football on yet again 😴😴😴 they can only show two live events and there coverage has been terrible,  probably spent more on the presenters than the coverage.

Then the rugby 7s came on 😳😳 that was fast and frantic,  it was the quarter finals,  have a look for them, well worth a watch.

@ditchman don't forget the volleyball,  this popped up earlier,  I haven't seen any of this or many other sports but the idea of getting fined for not wearing bikini bottoms is ridiculous,  perhaps the mens volleyball should wear thongs 🤣🤣

No thanks to the thongs!! 😱

Whilst I appreciate there is a need for some form of consistency/uniformity with regard clothing, insisting on bikini bottoms for the ladies is really rather ridiculous! Although appreciated 😂
