CaptC
Can anyone please help in my research into a 12 bore shotgun I recently purchased? Details are - The rib is engraved "Made Especially For G&M Clyde 187 High Street Glasgow" - The gun, a 12 bore boxlock ejector was made by Holloway and Naughton circa the early twenties and resleeved by Westley Richards probably in the early 60's. In it's day I would put the gun at the higher end of the market. The checkering has worn away but the stock, with a little care came up well. I have contacted H&N whose records were alas destroyed but interestingly the engraving was possibly done by the late Henry Kell or one of his apprentices. Glasgow Trade Directory shows no Clyde's at High Street. Google maps shows a large gap at No 187 so I'm wondering if it was bombed in the war? I will post some pictures later as the Memsahib is shouting about going out.
