The first migrants have arrived.

After domestic duties I decided to have a look around this morning.

No more than a mile from my house I saw a very long line of pigeons travelling between this village and some woods. I hastily built a hide on a rough bank and in 45 minutes I emptied my cartridge bag. I didn't pick very many for my efforts.

Postscript.

Those who know what a good flight line is will know how rarely they come along so after a bacon, brie and cranberry toastie eaten with unseemly speed I went out again.

The line was still there but I set up somewhere slightly different.

In two hours I almost emptied another cartridge bag. For those who wish to ridicule my shooting here is some ammunition. I fired 115 cartridges for 33 pigeons down and 25 picked.

I have shot more on a flightline (Agaman and I shot over 100), I have been on a more shootable line with Motty and Muncher, I have shot higher birds on returning lines but never have I shot such difficult birds as these. They were passing both ways crossing a 40mph wind and they were just tricky.20211027_141134.jpg.8d1521dd262e9ea18408ab5f8ecfba6d.jpg

From the situation you described, I doubt there's many shooters that would have achieved a better cartridge economy than 3.5:1 on high, fast, wind-driven pigeons.  That's damned good going!

A tip of the hat to you, Sir ;)
