Little boy mauled to death in Caerphilly 😔

In the newspapers a 10 year old boy has been mauled to death by a dog in Wales. Such sad news, but it seems like a recurring issue that seems to happen more often than the shark attacks in Australia. Dog has thankfully been shot dead by the police firearms team. Details of the breed of the dog has not yet been released but I imagine it was not a spaniel. Why do people bring these grim animals into our communities?

If we don't know the breed, how do we know it was a grim animal?

Intuition.

Reports out and looks like I was on the money. To be fair, the odds were massively in my favour. Every time it is one of these monstrosities.

I always sit on the fence when i hear things like this. Why did the dog turn. Kids can be spiteful to animals

🙈

You cannot have been around many dogs and certainly never trained one if you believe that for a second.

I've been around dogs all my life and one of my posts tells you that i have had 20 + dogs. But how many kids have been bit because

they have been tormenting the dog. Most of the time the full facts don't come out. Obviously i don't wont kids to be killed but a

lot of them should be taught to respect the animals. In this case it might be something different.

True 🙈

My mistake, I was going to reply to that yesterday with my dogs but had to leave to go to work. Apologies for being blunt, but many dogs will snap at anything or anyone they can. I’ve seen many dog bites almost always it was a child or dog just passing by with no prior interaction and the aggressor dog just goes for it.

The dogs need to learn to respect people. Any dog that barks or growls at me is not long for this world.

The dog was, according to The Times, 'an eight stone bulldog called beast' and had to be shot seven times. They'd only had the dog a couple of weeks and it had been advertised on FB. The previous owner had said he was rehoming because he didn't get on with other dogs but was 'great with people' and was 'about the size of a labrador.' A 52kg labrador...

A pretty miserably story all round.

Why anyone would be reckless enough to take in a dog like this is beyond me.

Watching the series "Pit Bulls and Parolees" changed my mind somewhat on this.  Bearing in mind why the breed was created in the first place most of the dogs featured seem to be happy affectionate animals even after abandonment and in many cases obvious abuse.  Same with Cesar Milan's programs.  Sadly their reputation and innate destructive abilities too often appeal to the very folks who should never be allowed to own a dog of any type.  And of course there are some dogs that are just plain aggressive and unpredictable and the right thing to do is cull them from the population before something awful happens.

Here we are again, with you showing a complete and utter lack of understanding of dogs.

Has a child been attacked due to the dogs breed or the owner and training of that dog?

You really are utterly clueless.

As for the poor child killed and his family,my heart really does go out to them.

Untill the people who are the problem behind these attacks are dealt with, the problem will persist.

What on earth are you on about?

At the time when I posted no details of the dog were known. However, what a surprise I was bang on the money. If he had been attacked by a badly trained English Toy Terrier I am pretty sure he would still be alive.

The breed of dog, in combination with its training and temperament are critical factors. Your lack of knowledge on any subject on this forum is increasingly tedious. I am sorry to say that do not know what value any of your contributions add. Let’s take it to PMs as if it is going to be anything like the last few times you have sought my posts out to derail this is going to be drivel for others to read.

I'm talking about your complete lack of understanding about dogs, training or how they think, but in this instance youve put 2 and 2 together and come up with about 3000.

I could have predicted it to, although more precisely it would be a American pit bull type dog but I won't go into that as its clearly all beyond you capacity.

All you've actually predicted is the dog is or was owned by a chav, which despite it being a very tall order is probably more clueless than yourself, people like that get dogs like that due to image, if a lab or spaniels gave them the same status you would see lab and spaniel attacks go through the roof.

Is a lab not capable of killing a child, could a toy breed not mayne or kill a baby. It's how a dog is trained and socialised and the individual dogs temperament that is far more important.

I have worked with and trained dogs capable of eating a pit if they wanted to, do you know how many have attacked anything they weren't meant to, zero, none at all.

Your beyond education unfortunately.

On balance I had a mate with a staffie that was a soft as a price of toilet paper but  snarled and dribbled like a rotwiler if you went near his wagon.

but just as we breed our dogs for retrieving game - some dogs are bread for agression there are always exceptions to the rule but most police dogs are Alsatian fast powerful and got an agresive streak ! Drugs dogs spaniels.

I am not going into details on here but as drugs and vicious dogs go hand in hand they breed there dogs to be intimidating and protect the assets of the business

No dog is to be trusted but my sprocker who is curled up on my knee having her lug scratched has not got the strength to rip the throat out of a young lad.

I agree training can reduce the risk but if that killer instinct has been bred in through it blood line then you are increasing that initial risk ?

I agree with most of that, although your cocker could kill a baby if so inclined. Which is my point, it's how we raise our while respecting they're dogs and not humans.

I could almost certainly take walked ups or anyone else's dogs and train them to bite no problem at all, it's not about the breed although it obviously plays a part in liklihood and ability. All dogs can breed with each other, despite the visual differences they are literally wolves in dogs clothing and they all still have prey drive under that clothing. Simply blaming the breed of a dog is idiotic as I pointed out in my post above.

The irony is beautiful.

I'm not showing off, that's what chavs do the point has clearly gone straight over your head yet again, your arrogance wont allow you to learn, I pity any dog that has the misfortune to be owned by you, I really do.

The misfortune to be worked in the way their centuries of breeding intended?

Compared to being a chocolate teapot of an overgrown lap dog being no use and certainly no ornament?

Listen, when I pick up a hammer I use it to knock nails. If I had a baiting dog I would use it to bait. If I didn’t have anything to bait I wouldn’t have a baiting dog as it has no requirement.
