Anyone a fan of his? His new series on the Lakes is worth a watch. He's just brought out this gem:

'The grey squirrel has been a bit of a hand grenade in our woodlands.' We're now on a segment on shooting greys and it's spot on. No whinging about 'oh it's cruel blah blah blah.' Just facts.

It's on BBC2 now

Yes watched it,  its good when you can say I've been there and know they aren't talking rubbish.

Good to see the young farmer and his mates working to keep their farm going.

So far an interesting programme, shame it is only a 3 part series.

Like the lad said, what other choice did he have.

I have always liked Simon Reeve, he comes over very well.

The Lady culling greys is very well known in red squirrel circles. Her group remove seriously large numbers of greys every year.

A few years ago, a local hotel put grey squirrel on their menu and it was very popular. Unfortunately, the antis started to threaten hotel staff on social media and the dish had to be removed from the menu.

I thought the lad was very brave to continue to run the farm. He could have very easily just sold up.

This unfortunately is where we get hit the hardest as fieldsports and country sports folk, as soon as the other side hear about these kinds of things they go on the rampage with threats of death or arson on the hotel or pub etc. We and the landlords then have to submit to their crazy threats rather than them being pulled over hit coals for their illegal activity. It's mad that they get away with it. Same with masked Sabs, if any of us walked into a city centre with a full face cover on we'd be stopped within minutes.

That always seems the way of it, nothing ever appears to happen to the thuggish mob, officialdom goes for the easy target law abiding?

I did enjoy the bit on the squirrels also interesting that he said about the damage they do to the trees, one of my perms lost a load of young oaks due to greys stripping the bark.

Anyone see the Secret life of the forest, it was on last night on channel 5. Its filmed in Kielder forest and does show the red squirrels and says how bad the greys are for them.

Also shows a Mandarin duck eating a mouse.

But are you surprised they've not been.. if you insult and threaten certain groups of people it seems you get away with it ...

I've no idea if they have or not, hopefully they've been reported, folk seem to get temporary bans for all sorts.

Seems to be the way of it, sadly?

I’m not very good on Facebook, So haven’t seen any criticism only encouraging remarks, although one person complained we didn’t see her shooting!

As we both know, she is a strong character and is prepared to stick her head over the parapet.  The time and work she has done in encouraging and training others (not just red squirrel groups) to control grey squirrels is to be admired.

Absolutely mate, I only know about the criticism she has had because she has posted about it, most folk simply have no idea.
