You Tube age verification.

Is anyone else having issues with You Tube blocking  a video until you submit age verification to them.
I have been a registered member for years, but today when trying to view simon6pcc's video " 2021 greatest shots.........", the video is blocked and the screen says "This video is age restricted and only available on You Tube", there is then a link to You Tube.

I follow the link and the video is still blocked, but the message is "Verify your age, complete a brief check to make sure you are old enough to watch this video", then there is a box "VERIFY".
Hit the box, you are then given two options.
1. "Use a credit card to verify immediately, you will not be charged. Any transaction fee will be refunded.

2. "Use you ID, submit an image of a valid ID, like your drivers licence or passport, it may take up to 3 days to verify your ID".

I have Googled this and it is legit, with plenty of complaints about it, its supposedly to comply with European legislation, although I am not sure how they tell your age from a credit card.

I would mention that I can view any other video on You Tube, with no problems.

I tried to view a link a friend sent me and Youtube looked for my details to prove my age.I can't remember what the video was but wouldn't have been too risqué.

I can watch all shooting videos without being asked for any ID. I do think there was a stage where I was being asked to prove my age to view a much wider range of videos but I haven't been asked in ages.

I would refuse in any case, there are enough videos to watch on YouTube that are not restricted without them having more of my details.

Just a thought - do you have, for example, grandkids that watch kids' shows on the same device as you're having trouble using?  Could be cookie related but I'm way out of my depth here...

Maybe try signing in on a different device, or if you can use google incognito mode to see if it makes any difference

They can tell you are at least 18.

This is a real thing, it's not a scam, but like has been already said, there is no video on  YouTube that I need to watch so badly that I will give them my ID and especially not credit card details.

Nobody has access to my PC except me.
As I said, I can see any other video on You Tube and this is the first one blocked>
If I wanted to watch porn, or something "risque", I would not go to You Tube.
There I watch music, comedy, sports, shooting and fishing videos. It can only be the shooting/hunting stuff they are classifying as "adult".
A friend telephone me tonight to say he had the same thing and submitted a copy of his driving licence, they immediately accepted that and any blocked stopped immediately.
