gmm243
Afternoon I have a Charles Lancaster S x S which has 30" Damascus barrels. This gun is my day to day gun and has seen a lot of use so much so that all around the forend where I hold it is now silver.I would love to get the barrels re-browned purely from a vanity reason but I know nothing about it.The last time I got this done it took weeks to complete as I think it was climate related to the curing process (I am no expert). I have seen some recommendations for members here who blue barrels but wondered if anyone knew of someone who could brown them? The last man who did mine has sadly passed away.I did see a product for sale to do at home but it involved heating the barrels with a blow torch then applying and frankly I am not happy doing that and potentially wrecking the barrels. benbobailey
Dan has done some fantastic blacking work for me, at fair price. If he browns, he'd be my first choice. Regards Edited January 1 by benbobailey

enfieldspares
Personally I'd actually black them. That way you've the best of both worlds. The less harsh report or "ring" that you get with wrought iron barrels but with the durability of blacking as a finish.
Dave at kelton
Had some work done on my Charles Lancaster Hammergun by Graham Mackinley in Dumbarton. Excellent job and happy to post pics if you need to see them. Canβt give a price as it was part of barrel repairs after an accident.
benbobailey
Gmm243, please do not consider for one second the option of blacking over a pair of Damascus barrels. Dave Kelton, yes GMc is good but I hesitate to give a recommendation based upon very slow turnaround and price, in my experience. gmm243
Thank you for all the replies, firstly I hope to get this done during the close season so time would not really be an issue although I know from past experience it is fatal to tell someone you are not in a rush!! As to blacking the barrels I would really prefer not to do that,I think it would take away from the gun and to be honest on the few formal days I shoot it is always a talking point when I take the long brown barrels out of the case. If I had money I would like another set of barrels made that had 2.75" chambers as it would open up a larger availability of shells.I shoot mainly woodcock and snipe and in the past year it has proved difficult to get 2.5" 7.5 or 8's which I usually use. holloway
Go on Facebook and look up Bromley barrel blackers check out his work done the pattern that he brings out of Damascus is superb ,to even think about blacking over the pattern is sacrilege and vandalism.
