Great fun but tempered.

On Friday along with two companions (our ages aggregated over two hundred years) I walked some of the hills and deans of Berwickshire in the company of three hard working spaniels.

We walked miles in boggy ground, through gorse bushes and through bracken walking up game. What a time we had with pheasants, woodcock, teal, snipe and pigeons in the bag.

On Saturday morning round the breakfast table sat three old men either too proud or conceited to admit that they were very stiff. However the thought of another day out soon banished negative thoughts.

Saturday was a driven day. However the shoot has virtually been ruined by the storm three weeks ago and many plantations are just flattened. That tempered my enjoyment somewhat.

After a dank start the weather improved and we had good sport shooting those woods less severely damaged. A decent bag of pheasants and woodcock was achieved.

When you have got access to a lot of land it is surprizing how many miles you can walk in a day , one advantage you find when your fellow guns are roughly the same age and in the same condition is the speed of walking suits all members and you can stop for a rest and a bite to eat when you please.

We have covered ( do we shoot Woodcock ) many times on the forum and it don't bother me if they do or don't , we have got a choice and each person can please himself , we don't encourage shooting Woodcock but if a gun want a couple for himself he is more than welcome to try and bag a couple .

Yesterday after a wet and soggy day we had four hanging up in the game larder and they were all in very good condition and throughout the day we saw good numbers on most of the drives .

Hope your stiffness is all but gone and a few pigeons will have your name on them when you get back from your trip up North , nice photos with your detailed report :good:
