Gordon R Posted January 14, 2022 Report Share Posted January 14, 2022 Mate has a 10 year old Vito V6. Reliable enough, but thirsty. More comfortable than its successor. My daughter in law runs a two year old V Class and has had a couple of problems with the hand brake, which oddly enough weren't covered by warranty. I haven't driven it, but it is dire if you are a passenger. Every bump in the road feels like a giant pothole. According to him they were built in Spain and painted with acrylic paints and then laquered, rather than cellulose paints. No rust protection (waxoyl) behind the panels , they did it with Fords in South Africa too, the climate in such places, they had never needed it before, so didnt bother. The concept of cars ending up in wet countries like Blighty obviously never occurred to them ! I remember 3 year old ford escorts made in SA with the front of the bonnet falling off with corrosion, and the Vito , Sprinter , rust problem was , and still is well known, as well as many others. nevb Posted January 15, 2022 Report Share Posted January 15, 2022 Bought a 119cdi premium 7 speed auto 190hp a year ago secondhand from a main dealer. In just over 15,000 miles it averaged 43.5mpg, best I had on a long run was 51, never missed a beat absolutely loved it, forced into a company car so had to sell it.
