Mental health and sgc renewal

Hi all,

A family member of mine who lives with me has recently started using the NHS mental health service.

I have my renewal coming up soon and I am a bit worried. Does any one know if this is something my GP can comment on in the renewal form. Or are they only allowed to fill out the form with regards to my medical records?

We both use the same GP so they will know we live at the same address.I would not be happy if I loose my guns over this.

Hi.

I helped fill in the new form for one of my mates he's in Nottinghamshire.

There's a separate form for others living at the same address which asks for there doctor's details. Also there previous addresses.

I would say from that they'll get all the information.

I would discuss it with the FEO. Honesty is the only policy.

I would also discuss it with the FEO, high lighting your own concern, and what precautions you have taken.

Can you give us a bit more info / context?

From my own experience working in Mental Health there will be a huge difference from someone accessing low level services for a bit of anxiety etc, vs someone who's being supported by the crisis team following a significant event.

Would you be happy to lose your family member over your guns? You really need to do what's best for that family member.

Your family shouldn't have access to your guns anyway, so I would double down on the security of your cabinet and keys and take every precaution to keep everyone safe. It is something that you should and probably already do.

I don't know your situation, and mental health covers a broad spectrum, but I'd speak to and take advice from the FEO. He may be happy with your current security, or he may recommend that you to temporarily lodge your guns and/or ammunition elsewhere. There will be a solution that involves the safety of your family and you still being able to hold a ticket.

I wish your family member a speedy recover.

Much depends on how the mental health issues manifest themselves, in my experience, and the treatment prescribed, but I would be very surprised if you lost your firearms over this.
You need to inform your FEO, and liaise with the mental health specialist treating your relative, if indeed they’ll discuss his case with you if he isn’t sectioned, and/or if he is in your care.

Thank you all for your responses, this had nothing to do with being dishonest.

And I do take my family's health above all.

My guns are safe and I am the only one who has access to them and I don't keep any cartridges at home.

I was just asking to see if it is something that would get picked up at my renewal so I know in advance.

I will speak with my FEO before I get my GP to fill out the proforma

What is that about?

Is that just your region or do others know about this?

It's news to me, I'm in Thames valley and renewed my co-terminus about a year ago, I don't remember anything about this, is my memory going or is it just your region???
