That's interesting. I'll find out if he had any maritime connection.

There’s a reason they don’t have a point to the blade

if you think about it it’s common sense really

I say blade for want of a better word, but it's smooth and rounded. I take it that the spike at the bottom is for removing stones from horses' hooves!

Any help appreciated. It belonged to an in-law's father who would have been well into his 80s now.

Were these made by Rodgers of Sheffield (stamped on blade) along with all of the similar Service items?

Next time you travel on a steamer ask the bosun he’ll probably help you out and take you down deep into the hold and hold the candle while you bend down to see it 😂😂😂

I'm beginning to form a picture in my mind , and I was right , it's disturbing 😳

A Golden Rivet refers to the claim in naval folklore that every ship is built containing a single, commemorative "golden rivet"

I suspect that nigels definition,  is somewhat different.

Its , actually a sailors or sailmakers pocket knife. (see attached modern version)

My mates dad was a merchant seaman on the BP tankers he was never without one - even though he was quarter master - second shed and third medical officer!

think it was more about badge of honour
