When I first got it I was using it quite a bit, using the zoom a lot and testing the ir levels, so it was a bit battery hungry with duracell industrial batteries to be honest. I was waiting so long for some energizer lithiums to arrive that I bought a set of duracell optimums. I then did the distance and ir testing you asked about and they seem to have performed a lot better with no sign of any significant drop in power so far. I would still think that the energizer lithiums would be the best bet.
