Anyone got or used one of these?

Copy of a Tirfor, I have a similar one by Brano.

As you may know they come in various sizes and need their own special wire rope.

As for use, mine is heavy, awkward and hard work, but I can use it in all sorts of places I'd never get the winch on the Land Rover.

I can't remember the last time I used it but it's a useful bit of kit.

What do you want one for?

Tree work, stumps, etc. I don’t need speed, just a good steady pull.

You'll get that, the only downside is it can be hard work, it'll certainly warm you up on a cold day once you start to feel the load.

They work just as well pulling, lifting or lowering.

I can't vouch for that particular make, but my Brano version has been faultless.

Just remember to look after the special rope, the winch grips it as it passes through, and will slip or crush and damage regular wire.

It's rather inflexible stuff, I store mine on a wooden cable drum but I've seen them coiled on the inside of an old motorbike tyre.

I saw those on YouTube. They look like a nice bit of kit. Couldn’t find a UK supplier though.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Maasdam-Long-Haul-Puller-4-Ton/dp/B002RL7UGW

They apparently have them on Amazon.co. uk now.

When I got mine I had it sent over from Amazon.com in the USA.
