Playing devils advocate, are you not responsible with regard to checking the form and notifying them of any mistakes?

Oh and of course you were by your own admittance speeding.

It’s actually up to a £1000 fine I think

F.O.G.= foot off the gas = No ticket

Reality is if you’re aware of the road and the environment you should never actually get a ticket, even if you drive ‘progressively’ on the odd occasion . Had this discussion with an old neighbour who was a traffic cop.

Personally I would check my vehicle docs and if my name was spelt correctly then I would use the lawful excuse that I didn't receive a Notice before prosecution within the statutory period.    And cite the fact that its unlawful to open post that is not addressed top you.    If you didn't inform DVLKA they had it wrong, then there are potentially other offences.....

Sounds like very bad advice that is very likely to result in making a somewhat trivial situation a whole lot worse.

I agree with the last post , why look for loop holes , you were caught doing 36 in a 30 mile limit and above all you admitted it , you wouldn't be the first and certainly not the last , if your licence is clean you should get the speed awareness course , if you have already got points then you will have three more and £100 fine , unless it's different in your neck of the woods , either way go with the flow of the tide when whatever comes through your letter box , and just keep checking your speed .:good:

I was walking the dog a few months ago and there is a high bridge over a busy main road with an over taking lane. As I walked over it there was a copper on it with his motor bike hid and he was literally peeping around the corner with his speed gun down onto the road. I couldn't help but shake my head. I saw him there another two or three times.
I did notice on my recent renewal there was a question have you have any speeding fines so I assume it has some bearing on a renewal

Count yourself lucky @steve_b_wales , next year it that same stretch of road will be 20 MPH - Buckley has just converted to just about all 30mph being downgraded to 20mph - along with a flood of camera vans heavily policing the area

People are complaining about being overtaken by cyclists who don't have to obey this limit. I agree with estates being 20MPH but they have done a lot of the main through roads as well

You can't make it up 😞

As far as I’m aware 20mph Isn’t enforceable, which is a joke in itself.

Here in Socialist Wales it is legal

50 is the new 60/70

40 will be the new 50

30 will be the new 40

20 is going to be the new 30 - everywhere but is currently being "trailed" in a few select places

Here is an example of road that has now been classified as 20mph

I live on a 20mph Road where the average speed is around 35 + mph. There was recently an RTC near my house, both vehicles were write offs, both air bags had been deployed and 1 vehicle also demolished 10 foot of a garden wall. This occurred at 11.00am. (The speed of vehicles after 11.0pm is nearer 50mph) IF that amount of damage can be done at er..........20mph. Try to imagine what it would have been like if those vehicles had been speeding  ?   🙄

It is. Last course i went on, about 4 years ago they separated out all of the 20 zone law breakers for their own session.

It’s only endorsable if they’re going over 30 mph in a 20 mph zone. If they were doing 29 in a 20 mph it isn’t endorsable, I believe .

I spoke to a couple and they reckon they had been done at 26 but not sure i believe them. I would have thought at 30 you would loose your licence? its equivalent of over a 100 on the motorway.

My next door neighbour, an ex traffic cop - there is some karma for you, was done for 36 in a 30 last year, he took it on the chin, paid the hundred quid, declining the course offered with a smile - he is of an age where every day is precious.

My best mate at school was killed 48 years ago by a car estimated to have been doing 35 miles an hour in a 30 limit but technology was not good enough back then for a conviction. In any case he has had to live with that decision for the rest of his life.  Despite innumerable similar incidences countrywide since some folk refuse to acknowledge they are doing anything wrong speeding and change their behaviour in any way. That is their choice, I have made a different one.

The enforceable 20 mph come down to the local force, I know currently where I am they’re not enforced. Quoting my neighbour who’s a traffic cop. Now that may obviously change and may or may not be the same across all regions. There are only a few cameras that can actual calibrate to 20 mph, along with all the other problems that come with percentages allowance over etc..

I wish it was enforced, having said that, where I live (in a 20) the main culprits are well well over the 20 mph limit and would more than likely get banned at the speeds they do. YMMV

In Bristol some streets are 30mph, some are 20mph. So, you have to keep alert to change. A momentary lapse last year and I was caught at 28 in 30 zone. Fortunately I was offered a speed awareness course, by Zoom!
The high take up of e-scooters means that I am often under taken and overtaken by scooters in 20mph zones, sometimes with two on one scooter.!
To the OP I would say ignore barrack room lawyers, bite on the bullet, take the course and get on enjoying your shooting.

more than alert as over 20mph is a major crime to police here in a town where they watch criminals destroy our statues and children can buy crack cocaine on every street in the place

Yes, but you do not outnumber them,  are not going to resist arrest, potentially stab them or infect them with hepatitis or HIV..... Hence an easy target....

It would be unlikely to go to court, your speed is only 1mph over the "10% +2" threshold.  I wouldn't bother asking them to clarify anything about the symantecs, that is just proving your guilt.  This isn't a parking ticket or similar offence judged under maritime law but a criminal offence, so a spelling mistake around the legal-fiction of your legal name isn't going to change the outcome.

However you could always ask them to provide a photo so that you assist with identifying who was driving the vehicle at the time.  You can take the chances and ask for it to go to court hoping that the Police don't see it as worth their time and fail to show up.  It is them that have to prove your guilt and there are potentially many loop-holes to get out of it (was the detector calibrated and was there a witness/2nd PC at the scene?),  however it is likely to get very expensive if you fail and the judge sees that you are just looking to get away with it.

Personally, I wouldn't admit to the speeding offence but would tell them that I am the "legal owner" of the vehicle and ask them to provide photographic evidence to judge their response.

If they offer a speed-awareness course take it and consider yourself lucky.

You can view Photo evidence on line, there should be reference number on your notification. Round here Speed Vans look more like British Gas vans.
