We have 2 labs, brothers from the same litter, both different starts in life. 1 is what some would call very vocal, and one or 2 on here would call it aggressive, he growls, screws its nose up and lunges towards other dogs while showing its teeth.

So with some of the opinions of the extremely experienced dog owners on PW what are we to do with him, muzzle him, or euthanasia ???

I would find a decent trainer to assess and hopefully fix your issue or at least make it manageable. Before an issue like that is tackled, you need to understand what is driving the behaviour and unfortunately it's unlikely to be solved over the Internet.

I was expecting someone to tell me to get rid of from the eggspurts on here.

It is managed and its doubtful he will ever stop, its just they way he is, much like PW members, he's just very vocal 🤪

its just the way that he expresses excitement, he's a very soft playful lab everything behind the 1st 2 inches is play. We have more problems with other dog owners lack of understanding of their own dogs language. Training wise he's had probably too much and not enough early socialising, He will sit to the whistle even on a retrieve and he will then take direction on a runner, he's reasonably well trained, recall is faultless 99% only if he's with his brother do we have occasional issues.

Very sadly another death following an incident a few days ago;  https://www.worcesternews.co.uk/news/20031885.egdon-dog-attack-toddler-2-dies-bitten-worcestershire/

It has now been stated that the dogs in this case were Rottweillers  https://www.eveshamjournal.co.uk/news/20039601.egdon-dog-attack-police-confirm-rottweiler-killed-toddler-two/

Most issues can certainly be improved if not fixed, but at the end of the day, if you've got a absolutely solid recall and are in open areas, it's not really a problem, more a management issue.

Just like people, I've never met a perfect dog yet and I've met some very special, highly trained dogs.

Hi Alli hope your well, young lad near me has a Dutch hearding dog and its huge beast in the making, a couple of week's ago I could hear him shouting the dog's name loudly, it transpires that someone was out with their dogs but the dog's where around 150 yards in front of them running about all over the place, one of the dog's ran towards the Dutchie and my mate thought this is it it's all over, fortunately the out of control dog rolled over on its back into a submissive stance and the Dutchie then just stopped and did nothing as there was no longer any threat to it or its master. I will add this is a young dog in training as a protection dog to work alongside his Malli he uses as a security dog. He has trained the Malli to a very good standard when out with little Stan it never even looked at him my ne pup saw it for the first time the other day and once again never looked in my pups direction.

Even though I have seen both dogs many times and fairly close up I would never trust them completely as you can never garrentee what may trigger a reaction.

Just seen there’s been a lady killed in the US by her own protection dog, a Dutch Shepherd!

With dogs like that from working lines, especially once trained to bite, you need to know what your doing or its a recipe for disaster.

It saddens me to hear, there are no winners when things like this happen.

Looking at it from a logical position however, the number of serious dog bites, much less actual deaths are miniscule when you consider how many dogs are owned, there are certainly far more dangerous things you can do than own a dog.
