Traveled 3800km and Im to old for it.  Close friends father passed away in Texas.  We decided to rent a van and drive out to Texas from NC to get his guns, and trophies. The plan was to put his fishing gear to use and follow the gulf coast to throw a few cast.  Long drive but fun little trip.  When stayed in his dads place in Dallas TX at Highland park.  Highland park is like a high end place where everyone drives $100,000+ cars, Beverly Hills of TX.  We went to the Holland and Holland Gallery and were treated very well. Down the road at the Berreta gallery we were kinda snubbed a little bit. My friend asked to see a shotgun and the guy said if he was serious he would arrange a private viewing and the price of the shotgun was $250,000. 😂.  But nothing was priced at berreta so how was we to know.  Once outside of Dallas Texas was flat with cattle all the way to the horizon for miles and miles.

From Texas we went south East into Louisiana where the state is basically all swamp.  Miles and miles of absolutely nothing.  Spent the night in Baton Rouge and in the morning we rolled into New Orleans.  I hadn’t been in New Orleans since before Hurricane Katrina wiped out a large chunk.  It’s still ****ty as I remember though.  Drugs, prostitution, gambling cesspool.  But the old buildings of the French Quarter always are cool to look at.  Lots of weirdos that speak a mix of French and English walking around.

But the most amazing architecture is out side the city where there are no building codes.  Mile and miles of water front self built homes.   Everyone doesn’t have the same ability to self build a home.  This is a metal shed on a platform

Brilliant write up. Thank you.
The trip is pretty much how I do a holiday to the U.S. when I go there.
What’s with the kilometres? We don’t even have those in England. Most folk here have no idea how far a kilometre is. But I notice the stupid, woke BBC keeps using the term occasionally on the news.

Brilliant write up with photos to match , good to see the little gems the tourist don't get a chance to look at.

Reminded me of the time when we were on a coach trip in California and it was far to hot to travel across the desert as it was melting the luggage on one of the coaches that did go across, so the driver went around the outside and we stopped at little places well off the main tourist route , one little place had a small cafe so while the rest of the passengers were queing up for a coffee I wandered down the street to look in the little hardware shop , whilst looking around I spotted three or four well made English hammer guns resting up the corner and the owner was a friendly chap who didn't see many English guys in this small village or whatever they call a small place over there ,  while looking at them he said if I was interested he would had sold me the guns for next to nothing but getting them back over here would had cost a small fortune , lovely country by the way .
