Went to mow the back garden lawn today and found four earth eruptions - as per photo. Any ideas please? eg are they ants nests? If so, then how to get rid of them. Thanks

yup looks like an ant nest...its that time of year when they are sproating wings and flying off to make a new colony.....think a trip down to the garden centre is in order for advice and chemicals

Boiling water from the kettle.

Ant killer powder.

The boiling water will kill the grass!

It would be far better to just let them get on with life, they will move on and the lawn will return to normal.

No ants on an ants nest ! - new one to me ! But be we seen one in middle of lawn so could be talking bull poo !

Looks more like grass growing through small mole hill to me !

Just take a kitchen fork and run through it .. you'll soon see 'em running around.

Yes and no .. they move on, usually a few yards away and you end up with another set of 'mounds'.

I've killed patches of lawn (+ the ants) with a kettle, and also used ant powder ... I think unless you catch them early you'll end up living with them.
