I've always fancied another 20 bore s/s.

Any way i found one my question is do i pay for it before it comes or after it arrives. I've never done one before. I've always fetched them but this ones 4 or 5 hours away.

Before. It will be, or at least should be, entered onto your certificate before its posted so it belongs to you.

🤔

My mate said his last one came to the gun shop then entered on his ticket.

He couldn't remember if he paid before or after.

I'm not saying it's always done properly but, as covered here many times,  there is the way it SHOULD be done.

The gun is entered onto the certificate of the "buyer" by the "seller" nobody else.

So if your rfd enters the gun onto your cert he is the seller and therefore legally responsible for the sale and warranty. It also means that he should have paid the previous seller for the gun and then sold it on to you. If he's doing that then there are tax implications.

Another system that worked but was fixed anyway.

Not sure if it is still the case but some RFD's used to have an arrangement where they would ship guns to each other if a customer was interested for the cost of postage alone.

That can happen, but what happens if customer wants to buy?

Who does he pay?

Who pays the tax on the sale?

You pay the person or shop you are buying from, sent the you're ticket they fill it in send it back to you and the gun to you're RFD you go to RFD he checks its on you're ticket and hands it over. Job done.

+1.

This is how it should be done. No question.

My local RFD once said (a few years back now) that in such cases you would buy the gun from him, he, in turn, would pay the RFD that originally had the gun but at a reduced price, it was an agreement between all participating RFD's. Bought my sons 101 this way, I paid my local guy £350 and he paid the RFD selling the gun £320.

I can’t believe that anybody actually buys a secondhand gun unseen from a dealer, pays for it, then gets it shipped.
Wouldn’t dream of it.

Thats why you should never buy from an auction without independent vetting .
