oowee
I am currently using two stage verification to access on line accounts. A password followed by a code sent to my phone. Not 100% happy having my phone number on line and on some accounts I am being given the option to use a verification app. Any thoughts and opinions would be welcome, particularly portability. I often use a burner phone abroad and would like to use the app to access accounts is this possible or do I have to take my UK phone with me? Cosmicblue
MFA - Multi-factor authentication is the proper name for it. Yes, you'll have to take your UK phone with you as most MFA authentication systems use SMS - a text message to a device that you have registered with your bank. discobob
There are two generally available apps - Google and Microsoft authenticators - you open the app and there is a code - it can also interact asking you to select a code from a choice of numbers that will appear on the device screen. https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/1066447?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/security/mobile-authenticator-app There is also SecurID which is aimed at Corporate. I won't tell which one I use as that would break part of my security 🤣
Dave at kelton
Use verification codes like this at work so happy with their security. Hate the SMS system as it presupposes a decent mobile signal and ours is woeful at home.

These apps still need an internet connection and you may not be allowed onto the workplace wifi so still need a mobile signal
Cosmicblue
When the cell signal is poor at home there are work-arounds like Vodafone's Suresignal to route cellular comms traffic via the tinternet - securely.

discobob
No problem you will get sites that ask you to enter the code - then you need to open the app and get the number from it (6,8 or 9) or other site it will ask you to click on the number that is displayed by the app (two digit)
