After been off for the last two years due to the virus it is back up and running for this year at the end of June .

Looking at the gate prices , car parking and the fuel to get to the venue and park your motor it would cost in the region of £70 for me and my wife who are both well over 70 , sorry to say we will not be going , far to expensive .

As money is tight I have noticed several local venues are now offering but one ticket and get one free which make sense , better to get a little than non at all .

Gradually pricing themselves out of the market!

This was the only show where you had to pay to park your car , I believe this year is £8 , I know at one time you not only had to pay entrance fee , you also had to pay to get get in the flower tents and to see the dogs , total rip off , far to many stewards wearing Bowler hats and getting expenses .

The Royal went the same way, just got too expensive and became nothing more than a Saturday Market in the last couple of years. The  Agri scene then split up with individual shows which I am led to understand are doing well.   Great pity because the Royal was a day to look forward to each year, like the Game Fir but that also nearly lost the plot and even now is a 50/50 mix of non shooting sport stuff and good stuff.  At least it is free entry if your with BASC.

I saw it happen with the annual pre-handgun ban Bisley pistol show. The price of the stands went up and up and in the end the small one man band traders found it uneconomical and the show ended up being like today's High Street. Big players but selling pretty much all the same things they'd bought from the same UK importers and agency holders.

So what was the point. The specialist swaging die maker, the specialist reloading die maker and the man with the Berdan primer decapper etc., etc. all stopped going and it became just a two hour drive plus petrol to buy from Surrey what you could get your local gunshop to simply order in from Tim Hannam, Edgar Brothers, Mountain & Sowden, Hull Cartridge Company, Parker-Hale, Viking Arms and etc., etc..

Still you might get a good deal on a jacuzzi, overseas investments, tax planning and there's always bargains in red corduroy trousers and check shirts made from the cheapest, lightest and shoddiest of poor quality cotton cloth.

The Royal Highland show is going the same way, £34.65 an adult ticket plus £15 parking. Kids get in free but, the price is likewise out of a lot of people's pocket for a day out.

This year there is also no tickets or parking to buy at the door, everything has to be pre booked which I think will catch a lot of people out.

Country shooting shows, where you can go and see blokes and women dressed head to toe in full shooting gear, in the middle of summer, walking (I mean being dragged around by) their latest in fashion gundog called Purdey or some other shooting name, whilst the couple and their dog have never set foot on a shoot in their entire lives.

Leave em to it!

Thats pretty extortionate, I'm going to the Irish game fair in Shanes Castle Antrim, for me and my wife, 2 kids and the father in law its costing us £35. As far as I know parking is free. I'm hoping with there being a couple of years without a game fair that this one will be well attended.
