The next generation

Over the last 12 months I have been teaching my pals grandson to fish. He had his first day fly fishing with a kit he won at BASC when visiting Scone. Lost one fish and that was unfortunately it. Yesterday we were course fishing for the morning. He has been with me a couple of times and was desperate to get a carp. Went to Broom Fishery our local water and got him on a feeder with sweetcorn. After a couple of small roach and bream he hit a carp and was shaking as he played it. He eventually netted a small mirror about 3lb and the look on his face will always be in my memory. It was about 30 seconds before he could speak. At 13.00 he was away north with his grandparents to try for mackerel. I fished on for 36 fish, mostly 2-4lb bream and a nice 9lb common carp.

I don’t think there is much greater pleasure than seeing youngsters like this follow in our footsteps.
