Im in the process of removing gravel boards and replacing with picket fencing, gravel boards certainly dont help hedgehogs much.

We have planted 6 fruit trees 1 beech, 1 false acacia and some other tree in our and next door neighbours garden. Loads of birds, inc green woodpecker, song thrush various finches and the usual blackbird robin, bees of all shapes and sizes, in the pond minnows, shrimps, water boatmen loads of other little wriggle things all in a little pond.

I don't know what's the best food for them I just know that meal worms make them ill , all the best and its good to see the hogs,

I don't get em in my garden we have a badger set about 50 yards from our house !

how ironical 2hrs after this post I went off the close and there was a hedgehog dead on the road ! it could be the dry weather that bringing them out looking for food ?

A couple of weeks back my wife and I were sat out in the cool of the garden, late in the evening after one of the really hot days when my wife leapt out her chair saying she'd be bitten by something.  She hadn't been on any creatures menu but had brushed a bare foot against a hedgehog lurking under her chair - a large healthy look individual who eventually scampered off.   We put some rainwater from the butt out, just in case.

The following evening we saw two together in the garden, one large, and one much smaller - haven't seen any in the garden for many years.

Perhaps that holds true with my thinking that the smaller one is a female although I am sure that it is far too late in the year for them to be breeding?

My wife went to a local pet place yesterday and they had a section for hedgehogs and bought food specifically for them (treat type stuff) and at least one was there last night snuffling away on it
