Hi Steve, try this..

 

1. Right click the Start menu (bottom left hand) and select Run,
2. Type ms-settings:personalization-start and press Enter
3. Uncheck the option Use start full screen

Another way of getting there is…

right click the windows icon bottom left hand/settings/start

then change ‘use start full screen’ to off

Tried it and still the same. Not sure why.

Looks more like win8 from that image, so is set up more like a touch screen tablet mode

Try this

Press the < Windows > key to access the Desktop view.

Right-click on the task bar at the bottom of the screen and select Properties.

Click the Navigation tab, then check the box next to Go to the desktop instead of Start when I sign in.

I did this and have now (almost) got the old style back. Now, when I click on the Windows start button and then the 'all programs', they are shown in the panel, but not on the larger screen.

My thanks to everyone who have offered their help etc
