30-6
Just seen on Welsh news about an archaeological dig going on in West Wales, found on a shopping development. So massive cash injection from local council and development on hold. Now , I expect for some this is the best thing since sliced bread. But should it be allowed ? What right has anyone to disturb the final resting place of a deceased person ( except in an illegal circumstance ) just to satisfy their curiosity. If anyone digs me up to satisfy their "hobby ", I will haunt them.

This is down by me, there were shops on top of the graves originally, our council bought the shops to create a shopping emporium, which will be another massive wate of money. The old shop was built over an old priory so it has been a major archological dig, the original cost of 6 million of our money is now approx 12 million and counting, our council have a history of projects that cost millions and soon after the price doubles, not 200yds away they knocked down a multi story car park for a new one with bus hub, it was 8.6 million, soon after it started it was annouced it is now 17.6 million, and they have the cheek to vote in a 6.7 percent council tax rise for this year, useless the lot of them. Centrepin
Typical councils, spend money on useless projects or on investigation in twinning towns from abroad that mean travel on expenses. Rename streets that have been named since the doomsday book with some trendy woke persons name. Some years ago our council spent some vast amount of money building a bandstand in the city centre and installed traffic lights every 150 yards. Before retirement I once counted 32 sets of traffic lights not including pedestrian controlled lights on my 7 mile journey to work. That's the quickest route using mostly the ring road
yates
As far as I am aware, a person is only guaranteed 100 years after burial to remain in the same grave. The skeletal remains can be moved after this period if required. I'm sure I read this years ago

Rewulf
I bet you can't get through the day without walking over someone's grave, it just depends how long they've been there ? The London underground unearthed masses, when it was being built, and still does sometimes , its a bit of a non story to be honest.

Minky
The first construction site that I went on as an apprentice mechanical engineer was on the site of a graveyard dating back to the Napoleonic wars. They were digging up loads of skeletons which had to be carefully located, measured and logged by the local archaeologist group, who carefully put the bones into labelled tea chests. when all of the construction work was done all of these skeletons had to be reburied with REVERENCE. With a proper religious service overseen by bishop of the diocese. I remember though that there was one skull being used as an ashtray in the site office which I did think was a bit of disrespectful of the person who that skull derived from. There was an undertaker on a shoot recently who was saying about a dead woman that they had to deal with that had died of cancer. She was so stick thin but her silicone in plants were like footballs. He said that it was quite upsetting to see and he had dealt with all manner or horrific sights such as people who had met their end under trains and vehicles torn and entangled in the machinery parts. And people who had died in fires etc.
Vince Green
My nephew is an archaeologist he spends his whole working life doing the investigation work before building projects are allowed to take place. Its a requirement in law that sites have to be signed off before work can start now. They are not really interested in bones they find them everywhere. What they are looking for are old roman villas and sites of historic interest that were previously unknown.
