Karlos_
I'm after some help. Seeking suggestions and advice on how to safely and effectively remove a stuck shotgun choke. Any tips or techniques that could help with this issue would be greatly appreciated, or am I best taking it to a gunsmith. Thanks in advance Karl
WalkedUp
I believe @Westley made a stuck choke removal tool, perhaps he could send you over the design to knock up? I understand it used threaded bar and plates to ensure the key cannot slip. Edited September 13, 2023 by WalkedUp
rbrowning2
had this problem, flush fit choke. Was not a quick fix but what i did was every day for around four weeks was using a tiny paint brush and a liberal quantity of quality penetrating oil with the muzzle up was to apply the oil between the choke and barrel then leave it muzzle up in the gun cabinet. Used it once a week on the clays, not sure if that helped or not, but then thankfully after about four weeks the choke turned. I now loosen the chokes after every shoot and periodically take them out clean them and apply a thin coating of grease to them.

billytheghillie
stand barrels down in a container full of diesel.

The thing that Walked Up was referring to was made by my shooting pal. I shall try and get some pics..........before he patents it ! 😄 I have used the diesel method many times, with great success. I use a plastic soup container or 'pot noodle' container and half fill it with diesel oil, then just stand the barrels muzzle down in that. Westley
Forgot to say it has NEVER been my gun that I have 'unstuck' the choke on. Having done a few, I make sure my multi chokes won't stick !
flippermaj
As said leave soaking in tub of oil or diesel for a few days and then the way I did it is to put your choke key pointing upwards into a bench vice. Then place the barrels down over the choke key and once securely located turn the barrels to undo the choke. Much greater leverage this way. ditchman
once you have done the desiel thing....pour boiling water over the end of the barrel (quickly) and then trythe choke key...
Green hornet
I've heated the barrel where the choke is and successfully removed a choke without damaging the bluing or barrel.
Peter Harris
Soaking for a few days in diesel oil, penetrating oil or Plus Gas should help , try heating the outside of the barrel choke area with a heat gun SHOULD free a tight choke . Failing all those efforts you could resort to using either a lefthanded tap of the correct diameter or a left handed reamer.

Gordon R
I have used Coca Cola to de-rust small tool parts - e.g. ratchet spanners etc. Worked on a decent number of Snap On ratchet spanners, which are expensive but poor.
