have had one very bad experience with a gunshop in the midlands that did not go well at all.long story short they would not let me leave the car park without taking the gun with me that i did not want and only asked for a refund for as it was not fit for purpose ie broke from new.never have had an experience like this in my life but was told i was an idiot for going to the local police station just down the road to complain about not getting my money back.eventualy contacted the makers, suppliers and importers, citezens advice.refund was then given within a week.

I always found the blokes in York Guns ( when it was down that little side street in the city itself ) to be very moody and quite indifferent, which I couldn’t understand cos it was an Aladdin’s cave of guns and I’d have been in my element to have such a shop.
However, that didn’t prevent me from spending a small fortune on pistols and revolvers in there over the years, simply because the stock was marvellous!
Nevertheless I was quite chuffed to hear of the younger of the two getting done for shady and illegal dealings of various bits of hardware sometime after moving to new premises off the M6 or wherever it was.
I believe the older bloke had left by then.

I paid my one and only visit to York Guns (on an industrial estate) in 2019.

According to Companies House, York Guns dissolved in 2021.

We're not too bad in the NW with Bamfords, Malmo Guns, Kelbrook and Cheshire Gun Room etc...

At the complete opposite end of the scale to 'nasty gun shop owners'.........I have just come back from Malmo Guns where I have bought my Grandson his first shotgun, for his 21st Birthday.  What an absolutely enjoyable experience it was too. Bryan let us try the gun at a couple of crossing targets, which my Grandson nailed, until he started to 'measure lead'. But he certainly hit more than he missed. An excellent part ex for my ProSport too. Albeit a Browning 'Laminate' is NOT my choice, but I'm neither 21, or likely to shoot the gun anyway  !

Thank you Malmo Guns  !

Not so much a gun shop, but one of the worst companies I ever dealt with was theoben. They sold me a duff gun, refused to honour a warranty, accused me of sabotaging the gun after multiple failed repair attempts and a woman who used to answer the phone hanging up for no reason whatsoever. Trading standards put an end to it eventually, but I'm not surprised they went broke, which is a shame, some of their airguns were ground breaking in their day.

hello, sounds like a gun shop to avoid 🤔, how do they get guns free if the owners SGC renewal is declined, i have just put in for renewal and going to give up FAC, i would rather give my rife and shotgun away to a new shooter than to a gun shop like that, my CZ 455 is going to the son of my friends farm family i have known since he was born, now around late 20s and so will the 12 B O/U

When it comes to renewal time all the messing about with medical certificates and police imposing additional restrictions like more security or proof of permission drives a lot of people to say its not worth it any more.

RFDs aren't selling anything much so won't take anything in, even for free.

  • 2 weeks later...

One of my all time favourite film clips is in Pretty Woman.

The shop staff tell Julia Roberts she can't afford the clothes.

Then later on she walks back in with bags full of very expensive clothes.

That's exactly what you should be doing.

I just love it.

I went to a fairly large and well known shop. I asked them to order me a case of 24 ga. The clerk then began to argue that there was no such ga.and I was thinking 28 ga. I asked him to look through his ammo catalogue but he refused.
I called another dealer who had two cases delivered to me in a week.

Some people shouldn’t deal with the public.

24 gauge 🤔 There's no such thing, are you sure you don't mean 28 gauge?
