Leather is excellent of course, but I've got some good quality thick canvas type material ones, that are also padded inside.
ditchman
lined canvas everytime for me.........
MrPhantom
Would add Croots, Parsons and Brady but with quality there is a cost. As Steve says, depends on the £££ of your gun I suppose.

ditchman
back to the original question...........i prefer a lined canvas slip...it can be washed and reproofed if need be..i have found some leather slips are quite heavy...they look nice but are better for transporting the gun rather than carrying it around.. Thanks, thinking a canvas slip would be more useable.

Too right! I have a pre-Croots canvas and leather one and it is heavy and a narrow shoulder strap. Really digs in when walking between drives and that with only a 6lb 12 ounces gun in it too. My advice if doing it all again would be a AKAH fabric slip with a moulded plastic nosecap. Had one once wish I'd never sold it. Didn't know they were still available. I will be telephoning tomorrow to get confirmation about the nose cap and if they still come with it ,ost likely order one. https://www.a1decoy.co.uk/product/akah-shotgun-slip/ Edited February 21 by enfieldspares

Fargo
I have a Parsons which cost me £285 16 years ago and it will outlast me however it’s a lot of money for a slip. I need another one so I was going to look at Croot’s and Teales.

I need another one so I was going to look at Croot’s and Teales. I, too, have a Parsons about the same age. A friend bought a pair for about £600 and a few years later gave up shooting (?) and sold them to me for £300. I split them and sold one to a mate for £150. Westley
Canvas for me, BUT I would avoid a sheepskin lining like the plague. Too many times I see people trying to give themselves a free manicure, by trying to get the 1/2 lamb off the front bead of a loaded and closed gun. I have also replaced the shoulder straps on my gunslips with rifle slings, which tend to be wider at the shoulder contact point.
PeterHenry
Chapmans is another good English make - I've ended up with quite a few of their gun slips / game bags / etc, and have been very impressed
