wymberley
Some 67 years ago my father, true to his word, bought me an ex WD machete from the Exchange and Mart. This because I'd had trouble retrieving a shot rabbit from a large bramble patch where most of them seemed to hide out. I had to 'earn' it though and having done my part of the deal - breaking the school high jump record - it duly arrived at the start of the school summer hol's. Now it seems that if I hand it in - I don't use it any more as the wooden handle is split and I find at my age secateurs are a safer option - in the next month or so I'll be compensated. Too good to be true, I thought, and so it is. It turns out that it has to be handed in to your local police station. After the two cities and the Torbay conurbation I live in the biggest town in Devon and we haven't got one. And blast.
marsh man
I well remember those W D machete's , or ones very similar , these were often in the back pages of the Shooting Times , if you were into Pigeon shooting then these were a must have , maybe because more people made there own hide as apart from the heavy old ex army surplus stores nets there were very few other camo nets on the market , and apart from the S Ts there was very few other places to buy one . Your machete have lasted remarkably well and don't you want to keep it to remind you of your dear ole dad ? MM

enfieldspares
No it doesn't have to be handed in and whoever is telling you that is talking nonsense. Maybe some local media poor quality hack? Does it have MORE THAN ONE HOLE in it's blade? Mine doesn't. So therefore not illegal. Now will yours be. ALL the details can be found below included images of what will become unlawful. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/compensation-scheme-for-zombie-knives-and-machetes#:~:text=You will not be permitted, the surrender and compensation scheme. wymberley
1 hour ago, TIGHTCHOKE said: Was it one of these? This was my late Fathers and is dated 1918 No. Mine is a WW11 Chindit machete - Indian make? - marked GCF 1945. I'm barking up the wrong tree - I got my info info from the BBC abbreviated version on Teletext so I can happily hang on to it. Mind you I don't think I'll risk walking past the Post Office and the bank with it hanging from my belt as I did in'57.
ant1
only zombie style knifes and machetes are being banned. your standard machetes for brush cutting and gardening is fine. nothing zombie style about a standard machete. enfieldspares
Or if you read the article it today's Daily Mail no less which I read at my friend's house just half an hour ago. It shows what will still be a fully lawful machete yet says such will become illegal. Rubbish poor paper = Rubbish poor journalism.
