Pippin pup Posted October 26 Report Share Posted October 26 Been clearing out old gardeners shed on the Farm and found a few old 16 bore cartridges that are for a 3” chambered gun. I’m sure I’ve seen a fairly new Browning with 3” chambers but not seen any modern 3” 16 bore cartridges. These are 72mm long un fired and some empties I’ve found are 76mm long. Surely these need a longer chamber than 70mm? Anybody seen or have some modern 3” chamber 16 bore cartridges? 73mm Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

dipper Posted October 26 Report Share Posted October 26 There’s a chap on this forum lives near Scotland who I sold some blue dot a few years ago .He came to pick it up he was into fowling .He told me he had a 3” greener but no 3” cartridges. busbiter Posted October 28 Report Share Posted October 28 This is the only 3'' 16 that I have in my fairly large collection of 16's. A blue gastight and suspect this would be a few decades younger (ICI roundel on the headtstamp) Unfired, this is also measures roughly 72mm. A fired Alphamax for comparison and an unfired Alphamax also. Not the greatest pics but the difference in length is clear to see. A bit too early for me,I used to buy Eley Grand Prix for £1.15 a box in 1973,the 32 gram HV Grand Prix were £1.17. Probably around £35 a thousand for anyone who had that much.The cheaper such as Red Rival or Yellow Wizard were about 90p a box at the time. I don’t remember Eley producing a plastic case cartridge until the late 1960’s, when they introduced them as their “waterproof” line.
