Lidl Soup

Never tried the soups from Lidl before despite shopping there for many years, just tried the Cream of Tomato (62p) and the French Onion and Red Wine (£1.09) and they are surprisingly good, I would say the Tomato is better than Heinz (£1.75) any day of the week.

I buy the odd fresh carton of soup from M + S , these are £2 something and I get two dish fulls out of one container full , I used to take soup on a shoot day but now we get supplied with soup so I now take one large flask of coffee , the soup I like the most is the chunky vegetable soup .   MM

Heinz soups are anywhere between £1.80 and 2 quid odd now.

I tend to make soup when I have suitable leftovers, but 'cheat' using bought stock, either beef or chicken.  I have also successfully used the gel stockpot things.  The powdery stock cubes (Oxo and the like) are very salty.  Cook up using leftovers (veg, potato, meat) and use a stick type blender to make as smooth or chunky as you like it.  It can be frozen in tubs if needed.  Be careful about adding any extra seasoning because the bought stocks are already quite salty though extra pepper is usually needed.

Most of the tinned and 'carton packed' soups are nice enough, but a lot are very high in sugar.  Some are also expensive.

my favourite soup is pea & ham.....

tin of mushy peas and a tin of marrowfat peas and some chunky offcuts of UNSMOKED HAM.....simmer it and serve.....totally better than any canned equivilent

Quite possibly, but yet again for convenience a tin of Sainsbury's Pea and Ham soup and some crusty bread is very good.  :cool1:
