After my total miss match last night I was told in no uncertain terms by J K D to keep it simple  , so what could be more simple than to cut up some pre cooked chicken breast , a bag of frozen Birds Eye veg and a few bits of my own , put it on high on the slow cooker for four hours and it turned out alright , then for after's I had a nice Bramley apple pie with custard , I am now already to face a wet start tomorrow followed by late sunshine on our last shoot this season  .    MM

I done a few of my spuds tonight as you keep asking where the spuds are  , I cut them up in small pieces and t b h they ended up slightly harder than expected , I still managed to eat them even with my new teeth in , so well done my Chinese dentist , the pain he put me through was worth bit 😁

Yes it done the job it was meant to do with filling me up and keeping the cold out , the Apple pie as expected was nice , although the meal was fine and nothing really wrong with it , I wouldn't want it two nights running , I had a little left and that will do for the dogs dinner tomorrow , no wonder his coat shine .    MM

next time before you put the meat in to cook (stew) fry it off....maybe roll it in flour and fry it...then half fry the onions add water to the pan swill it out and chuck it in thye stew with the other vedge ...good to add a stock cube   vedge or chicken

The chicken was pre cooked when I bought it so you could eat it hot or cold , I did make some gravy up and added a oxo and a drop of Sarsons browning , the meal was fine but with the slow cooker on high for four hours I would had expected the spuds to had been softer , the main thing was it was all edible and with no waste .   MM

prefer the Knor stock pots although more expensive.

I have no experience with slow cookers - so this is just my thought, but many dishes that include potatoes give them a 'par boil' (typically 5 - 10 minutes depending on 'chunk size' light boil) to get them cooking before adding them.

Yup, or cut them into small cubes. Isn't the rule of thumb with stews to make everything roughly the same size ? And a bit more liquid needed methinks MM 😉

The more MM tries things the better they will get 🥳

Very much so.

My mother died long (17 years) before my father who had never cooked.  He learned and became a decent cook, making varied and healthy dishes from base ingredients, and good fruit cakes, etc.
