Pukka Bundook
Evening all, (from an Alberta Canada perspective!) Born and raised in the Ormesby Middlesbrough area of the North Riding, but wound up coming to Canada to farm in '84. Still miss the old place but it got built on. Wanted to get in touch again with blokes from home to see how its going over there. Have my shotguns that were my Grandfathers and old Bert Hartley's, from bottom of Sutton bank at Thurlby. Nowt much to shoot here! Too many hawks and owls and coyotes and stuff. Former two are protected. So, I joined so I could kind of enjoy some pigeon shooting "at a distance!....and seeing pictures of home. We Do host a Victorian period shoot here on the farm once a year in June. Rob of British Muzzleloaders does some great videos of the shoot, but its not quite the same as being back there. All the best, Richard. Pukka Bundook
Well! I see I have lots of welcomes, and thank you all sincerely! Its lovely to feel like I might fit in, and at the same time catch up on the doings over there since I left. You know, I have never been back! Our oldest was 11 months old when we moved here, and two more followed and we were about in the same state as the proverbial church mouse! Being 5 of us we couldn't afford flights and hotels, and its a bit much to expect relatives to put 5 of us up. Still you know , it Might be for the best! I see it exactly how it was . The old farm before it became a housing estate. Its still a beautiful place in my memory! If I still lived close by, reality would dawn on me and the memories would fade. Like Dolly Parton said in that one song, "Where beauty lives in memory, it lives forevermore!" Thank you again chaps. R.

Well Ditchman, its been some time, but firstly with geese you want to not rush them! They are all muscle with flying up and down half the world. I once did Goose in orange, it tasted So Good! ...but you couldnt chew it!! I'd cooked if fast. You want to cook them long and slow in a covered pot, or for old ones even a pressure cooker. Cooked with a few onions is good. Dont go by what time you'd cook domestic fowl, give them 4 hrs and see if they are surrendering yet! They will give in, In the end, but keep plenty of water in the roasting pan so they half steam and dont dry out. I remember Elmer Keith shooting an old billy goat for a survey crew out of rations. They had a Russian cook. It was delicious they all agreed, but every roast he did, he cooked it three days to get it tender! Geese are related to billy goats!
