What Colours do dogs see

Recommended Posts

Hi,

The view of do dogs see in colour or monochrome varies greatly between all the different types of dog breeds.

For example the sight hounds such as greyhounds and lurchers are found to have more cones within the eye make up so they can ID more colours than most.

You will also find that different breeds of dogs view TV screens where others don’t even give it a second glance, it’s all got to do with the genetic make up of the eye with regards to cones and rods.

In trails of various surveillance equipment it was shown that it’s easier to ID small movements of objects at long range while looking at a monochrome image compared to a colour image. So it’s not just the advantage of having low light vision that most dogs have but it also assists in spotting movement.

It’s an interesting subject and it would be fantastic to view the image that our dogs see, but we can only guesstimate through the theories of the way the eye is built up.

Happy woodie shooting
