That part is actually a locking device which screws onto the top of the gas mechanism to hold the forestock on. If you unscrew that then pull the forestock off you expose the gas blowback mechanism.

These guns use gas from the previous combustion, captured through one or more ports so far up the barrel, to operate the mechanical mechanism for ejecting the empty cart, loading the next one and cocking the mechanism ready to fire.

Hope this helps.

Young airgunner mate,

No the cap you can see holds the barrel and forend in place.

The gas used to eject and re-load cartridges is spent gases chanelled back from the previous shot/cartridge.

these gases would normally create the kick felt on firing traditional o/u or s/s shotties but because they are used in this way there is less recoil felt on semi's auto's.

Not by any means a stupid question,

if you dont ask you'll never know.

Cheers sutty

I would like to buy one but being a leftie could be ********. Do they have a straight stock?

Thanks!

Mike.

Rogo

To be honest i would NOT buy a semi auto that is not set up as a left hander as you may get a face full of **** everytime the gun cycles as the chamber will be right next to your eyes.

Add to that one day you don't put your glasses on and using HEAVY carts and you could end up in a world of pain.

I would advise you buy a propper left handed version more for safety than anyything else.

LG

  • 4 weeks later...

Picked up a new synethetic stock 3'' magnum for £265 at the midland includes 5 chokes. Try Cheshire Gun shop. Cycles 28gm no problem, taking it wildfowling tommorrow so i'll see how it handles a heavier load. Unbelievable value and the barrel is good quality. Barrel to action fit and fore end fit is not perfect but acceptable and i get the feeling this is going to take many years of abuse.

I was out last weekend with a mate who has bought the same escort as me.

He was using 70mm 6's 32g ( Rio's i think) and it jammed quite a few times throughout the morning.

after a while we swopped a few carts and he never had a problem whilst mine just didn't like the 70mm,s

I soon went back to my 67mm 30g clear pigeon.

We even experimented by mixing the 67mm's and 70mm in the breach and every time the same answer.

the 70mm jammed.

Dont know if this was a fluke but for those of you having jamming problems it may be worh looking at your carts, it would be interesting to know the general outcome.

cheers Sutty :good:

Ps also put several Special pigeon 30g 6's through both guns with no problem. also 67mm????

Hi All,

I bought a escort Magnum 3" on Saturday. The one made of wood seemed more solid than the synthetic and more sturdy. I went to Lampeer Gun Shop in Mid Wales and exchanged my beretta over and under . What can i say, the escort is light in comparison and a great fit for me.

Whet home got used to the gun, all the buttons and loading as its my first semi to own. Then a bit of rough shooting was done. I bagged a rabbit and some pigeons, and i was well pleased. Was using 2/34 cartiges no 6 Rottweil , the german make !! not sure of the name.

For the money the escort is seems to be a solid little gun, I know it hasnt been put through the mill yet but at my first glance im very pleased.

PS Anyone in Mid Wales who fancys a shot sometime pm.

Thanks

Mine is a good gun now the light strikes are fixed. Only beef is that it chucks the empties about 10 feet. Should have known but I have not had semi auto before. My answer is to get the Hatsan Fieldhunter pump. Seems a great gun for my needs and drops the empties at my feet for easy disposal. Very light and fits me well despite being tall.
