21521 firearms offences in 2005/6 - SHOCKING or what. But then read the facts; 243 shotguns and 147 rifles were misappropriated (misappropriated is defined as stolen, obtained by fraud or forgery etc., or handled dishonestly) i.e. were once held legally. But that doesn't tell you whole picture either 'cos 18 of the rifles were misappropriated from from gun clubs (is that one club or 18 clubs i.e. one crime or 18)

Over 50% of all firearms crimes were committed with air weapons!! 42% were committed handguns. 5% with shotguns of which 2% were sawn off but again nobody can tell whether they were originally held legally. 0.6% with rifles.

Over 50% of all the offences took place in the Met (35%), Greater Manchester (11%) and the West Midlands (9%)

Intriging twist on words there for the masses... Air rifles seem to be weapons whereas more powerful/lethal guns and rifles are'nt. That had to be put up by a snidey politician or anti with an agenda that we ought to be worried about, given that most of us probably started out with air rifles.
